Exploring Bridal Portraiture. In this session, we'll take a look at the modern Bride and ways of posing her alone and with accessories. Although we will be working in the studio, the principles we will review will apply equally well outdoors.

While we all strive for a photojournalistic look to our wedding coverage, we can't forget there is a role for the bridal portrait. What qualities do we look for? What little tricks can we do with posing and lighting that will set us apart from the weekend warrior.

The Low Key Portrait

Nothing evokes emotion and intimacy like a really well done low key portrait. The soft lighting and mood can create a connection between the subject and viewer like no other.

Today we explore the world of  low key. A photo where the majority of values fall below 18% neutral grey. The opposite of High Key and an art form unto itself.

Our model, with dark hair, dressed in black clothing and posed on a black background will give us a true test of our lighting and metering skills as we try to hold all the values and keep one area from bleeding into another.
