Dedicated to the best Photographic education for professionals and amateurs of all ages

What's the deal with PSH Seminars?

Just why are Photography Schoolhouse seminars so different? Well it's all about learning, and to learn you have to do.

With most seminars you sit and watch as an instructor presents a slide show or live demonstration of their work. Often the only reason they're doing it at all is to try and give you a sales pitch for their books or DVD's.

At Photography Schoolhouse you get involved. You get up and shoot along with the instructor and get instant feedback on how to master the technique being taught.

I've always believed you can't learn to play the piano by watching a video. With Photography Schoolhouse Seminars you get the hands on education you crave.

Instructor

Kerry - How will I get great pictures with so many shooters?

This is what makes Photography Schoolhouse Seminars to unique.

We start by controlling each strobe with radio slaves. Only one photographer at a time can use a trigger so each of you will have a private one-on-one time with the model. As others are waiting, we ask that you move briskly and share the time. The instructor will make sure everyone gets a fair chance.

The Fun Begins

To insure everyone gets a good chance to shoot, we will break into two groups. Groups A and B will alternate between locations and subjects. We will further break down each group into two shooting areas. That means each group will have two separate shooting areas with different models and accessories to use. Attendees will be able to bounce back and forth between each shooting area, but should stay within their own group.

Photography Schoolhouse - The Maternity PortraitHow lucky we are as Portrait photographers. We get to work with people at the most important times of their lives.

We shot their engagement, their wedding, and more often than not, their back again for their maternity portrait.

Join this session as we see how easy it is to take a variety of strong, dramatic maternity poses in just about any location. In fact no studio is required for this.

Track Two - On Location

Group A -On Location Lighting - 1:30 - 3:00 PM
Group B -On Location Lighting - 3:30 - 5:00 PM

Photography Schoolhouse - On Location LightingLearn to see the light. It's already there. This sample uses only available light. No flash fill or reflectors, but simply choosing a location where the lighting suits the photograph.

Learn about the quality of light, direction, softness, ratios, and color.

Having learned that, we will also look at on/off camera flash, and the use of reflectors and gobo's to control the light when it just won't co-operate.

Photography Schoolhouse Socail Network Marketing

Social Marketing your Photography Business

Twitter this, Facebook that. How in all of this electronic world, does a photo studio make use of this exciting and somewhat confusing media?

Social Network Marketing is not only the new deal, it may be the only deal that matters for the foreseeable future. What role does it play in our marketing plans? Is traditional marketing dead? Do I simply move my other advertising over and continue on? Where do I get the time to do this? Should I hire a professional kid to do this for me?

Day 2 Shooting

Family Portraits - On Location

Group A -Family Portraits - 8:30 - 10:00 AM
Group B -Family Portraits - 10:30 - 12:00 AM

Photography Schoolhouse Family Portratis

Shooting a family portrait presents it's own challenges. Selecting a background, getting the light, positioning people and children, and working for expression are just some of the issues for the photographer to deal with.

In this section, we'll review these problems as well as working with fill flash and reflectors, and creating poses for singles, doubles and more.

Pro Head Shots - Seminar Room

Group A -Pro head Shots - 8:30 - 10:00 AM
Group B -Pro Head Shots - 10:30 - 12:00 AM

Photography Schoolhouse - Pro Head Shots

One of the great challenges for professional photographers and models alike is to come up with truly "Great" head shots for models and performers.

Both parties build their career on these shots. Using our model, we'll explore the techniques used to create these powerful shots. Setting up a head shot booth, lighting for glamour, posing, working for expression, and makeup considerations will be covered.

Studio Strategy - Gettin' Good or Gettin' Out
or - no, you're not a photographer, you just own a camera

A friend once told me, if you think the cost of education is high, you should just see the cost of ignorance. So how do we invest limited resources and get the greatest results?

Owning a studio is not just learning to become an awesome photographer, but learning to be a promoter, marketer, accountant, manager, babysitter, mentor, and about a dozen other things.

How can we learn to manage our time to run a successful business?

Outdoor Portraits with Fill Flash

Group A - Outdoor Portraits - 1:30 - 3:00 PM
Group B - Outdoor Portraits - 3:30 - 5:00 PM

Photography Schoolhouse - Fill FlashPortraiture with outdoor fill flash is a bit harder to do than most would like.

Often, for simplicity, photographers will simply use on camera flash. If fills in the shadows yes, but gives that "caught in the headlights" look.

Even with bounce cards and softeners, the look remains the same.

In this session we'll practice off camera fill flash.

Beauty and Glamour - Seminar Rm

Group A -Beauty and Glamour - 8:30 - 10:00 AM
Group B -Beauty and Glamour - 10:30 - 12:00 AM

Photography Schoolhouse - Beauty and Glamour

When we say beauty and glamour, we're talking about the kind of photography used in makeup and hair commercials. The idea is the model is the backdrop and the product is the makeup or hair.

In this session, we'll explore the ways we "Get the Look" and how we can use this in our studio photography, indoors or out.

Optional Sidecar Session - We Shoot Sexy Danny Rabalais - 5:00-9:00PM
We Shoot Sexy

Creative use of Camera modes for fast shooting and great results

I'm always being asked what modes I use for wedding photography on location. I use a number of them and each has it's advantages.

In this session, we'll explore the various ways of shooting for speed with results that will make people drool. On and off camera flash at eTTL flash modes will also be reviewed.

Group A - Urban Grunge - 9:00 - 10:30 AM
Group B - Urban Grunge - 10:30 - 12:00 PM

Texas Boot Camp

Just how does this help me?

Learn Photography - grow your business - mingle with your peers - feel the passion.

Get empowered as some of the best instructors in the country lead you thru hands on photo training. Work with live models to truly understand the technique, and interact with a real subject. You bring your own camera and shoot. You don't just sit and watch.

In addition to working one-on-one with our live models, you'll actually get model releases as well so you can use the work as samples, or stock photography.

How can you let so many shoot at a convention?

We don't! Photography Schoolhouse Boot Camps are about learning, not about cramming people into a room.

Yes, we charge a bit more, but don't confuse what we do with other conventions. We severely limit the attendance to a level we can control and insure that everyone has a fair chance to take awesome pictures.

But I'm just a beginner, is this for me?

Maybe not ... but probably yes. Here's the pre-requisites for making the most of this Boot Camp:

  • A willingness to learn

  • A desire to succeed

  • A semi-pro or pro model DSLR camera

  • How to set, aperture, shutter speed, f-stops, and ISO on your camera

From beginner to advanced pro, you will walk away with a mountain of information you did not already have and the ability to grow your business and build your financial goals for the future.
